Vastu shastra Tips for your kitchen

As per the rules of Vastu Shastra, since Fire prevails in the South East direction, the Kitchen should be located in the South East.

Technically as per Vastu Shastra, East quadrant is considered an excellent location for the kitchen because this area brings prosperity. South-East is the best direction for the kitchen. North quadrant is the second option and North-West is the direction. In diagonal plots, avoid North quadrant which has ill effects on female members. West quadrant gives average results for the kitchen.

Even North-East direction is fine for having the kitchen. The benefit is that the person cooking will face the East direction in the morning which is good for health. Cooking while facing North, is also fine.

The cooking stove

1. It is best placed in the South East corner (the place of Lord Agni).
2. It should not be visible from outside the house.
3. It should not be placed right in front of the kitchen entrance.
4. The gas cylinder should be close enough and hence should be placed in the South East of the kitchen.
5. Any additional empty cylinders should be kept in the South West.
6. Avoid any storage shelves above the cooking stove.

The kitchen door

1. It should open in North, North East or East direction.
2. It should open in a clockwise manner.
3. It should not be in the corner of any wall but in the Center.

Keep the kitchen sink and drinking water in the opposite direction or away from the cooking range- so best to place it in the North East corner.

The South West direction is meant to be used for electrical appliances in your Kitchen - away from the water section – that is the sink and the drinking water.

1. An extension of the kitchen platform, in an ‘L’ shape, near the South wall for keeping electric appliances like a microwave oven, mixer, grinder etc. would be very auspicious.
2. Keep all appliances about 6-8 inches away from the wall.

Place your dining table in the North West direction of your kitchen if it is to be kept inside the kitchen.

1. Do not serve or eat food in the Center of the Kitchen.
2. Hence it is best to avoid kitchen islands in the central part of the kitchen- these are quite majorly promoted in modular kitchen concepts unless you do not believe in Vastu Shastra.

The kitchen should not be placed under or above Pooja Room, Toilet or Bed Room.

1. It should not have any wall adjoining a toilet or bathroom
2. The door of the kitchen should not face the door of a toilet.

Storage boxes for essential commodities like grain, spices, pulses etc. should be kept in the South or the West direction.

There should be sufficient ventilation in the East and West directions and add an exhaust fan in the Eastern or South Eastern wall.

Clocks in the kitchen should always be placed on the South or the South-West walls.
